"Of that large Abbey which within the vale
Of Nightshade, to St. Mary’s honour built,
Stands yet, a mouldering Pile, with fractured Arch,
Belfry, and Images, and living Trees,
A holy Scene!"

The Furness Abbey resides in the ward of Newbarns, right at the edge of Barrow, in a patch of countryside titled as the Vale of Nightshade. Its creation dates back to the early 12th Century as an expansive monastery for the Order of Savigny. The discovery of iron ore nodes close to the surface afforded the monks ample tools from the king for excavating this ore, which the monks personally smelted. This ore provided the basis of the Furness economy. During this time, the monks of the Abbey controlled the peninsula under their wealth and influence, building not only mines but also the castles Piel and Dalton to protect the surrounding hamlets. The abbot, one of the most powerful abbots in the country at that time, was a ghoul to the Nosferatu.

Clad in grave-dirt monkish robes and secluded to the innermost reaches of the Abbey, the Nosferatu dug labyrinthine tunnels within the bedrock under strict orders to create a stronghold for the clan that can serve as a refuge in case of Cainite betrayal. The construction was mired with issues: flooding and cave-ins were a regular issue, as was the need of painstaking precision not to collapse the Abbey above. Even with the properties of Potence, the development progressed at a pitiful pace, but progress it did. After hundreds of years of constant labour, only the original builders still know all the crevices and hidden compartments, all the maze-like corridors and tangled staircases that make up this ancient Nosferatu haven.

Entrances and Exits
The original entrance is located beneath the Abbey. More precisely, it is a trapdoor located in what had once been a cellar lined with stone walls. After the abbey was destroyed in the 16th Century, the entrance was remodeled to better protect it. An additional fake wall was built on top of the entrance, the stone slabs carefully cemented in place so as to allow someone to carefully lift a portion of the wall up, exposing the trapdoor. For a single Kindred to lift this section of the wall would require a feat of intermediate Potence. The trap door itself is caked with a layer of earth on top, made of solid stone, and has no handle. It would require an impressive feat of strength to open it while holding the wall up as well, an effortless exercise for a Nosferatu elder, but young fledglings might have to work as a group in order to access it the way it was intended. Once beyond the trapdoor, a diagonal shaft leads deeper into the warren. Since the destruction of the abbey and the fake wall's addition, this entrance is difficult to use as an exit without help from outside.

The second entrance lies within a deep well. There is a thin layer of water still present at the bottom of it, and enough inspection within the muck can reveal a hatch that leads into a set of tunnels used to relieve flooding during construction. These expansive tunnels fit the size of a single person, and are all filled completely in muddy water. There are a total of 27 branching paths, each a quarter of a kilometre long; 26 of them are dead ends. The correct path eventually leads to a walled off basin with a rope ladder leading up into the warrens. This path leads to the bottom layer of the haven, and can be used as an exit, but only the Nosferatu within have the maps of the flooded tunnels, and even with the correct knowledge the experience can be extremely disorientating.

The third and final pathway is not located on the Abbey's grounds, rather it is hidden among a copse of trees directly to the West, past the Abbey Approach street. It is a similarly cramped place, the entrance to it being an eroded channel into the ground made by a dried-out surface stream. After huddling inside and crawling their way forward in darkness, one can find the markings of a deeper, claustrophobic tunnel lined with short, wooden pillars and rusted iron fastenings. Partway through this narrow shaft, the walls, ceilings and ground become lined up with hundreds of spiked hooks held in place by simple hinges that allow the hooks a range of movement between 45 to 80 degree angles, and has them face away from the warrens. The hooks attempt to entrap any who move toward the warren, while giving only light (but numerous) cuts to those who travel toward the exit. For those who manage to traverse the tunnel, the passage is separated from the warren through a safe door that can only be opened from inside.

General Arrangement
The destruction of their monk cattle was a heavy blow to the Nosferatu, as was the destruction of the monastery during the English Reformation. Since then, the warren was repurposed from a fall-back stronghold to an archive storage. Ancient documents and treatise, blackmail and sensitive records that could not be used immediately were instead transferred beneath the Abbey for safekeeping, far away from other Kindred. Deep within the bowels of its stone architecture—not unlike that of the Abbey above—lies ancient vaults of forgotten and sometimes now-useless knowledge. In the modern age its purpose has remained the same, although the method of data-retention has shifted to accommodate modern information-sharing. For that reason, the warren is designed with as much self-sufficiency as possible in mind. Entire antechambers are filled with custom-made electromagnetic induction generators, data storages, and accumulated stacks of electronic paraphernalia. Completely separate from this section of the warren lies the breeding pits, where animals used as nourishment have their pens. Through the help of animal thralls there are several long-winded ventilation passages that lead up to the surface, but nothing bigger than a rodent could pass through them. Every year, an inspection team of Nosferatu from Liverpool are sent to resupply the warren with blood packs, new tools, and technology. Nosferatu stationed here are chosen deliberately, and in the last hundred years these mostly included engineers, electricians, mechanics, software designers, and likewise technologically-minded members of the clan. As new technology becomes available, the old Nosferatu are shifted out with newer members more receptive to it. Due to the blood being limited to only animals, the number of Nosferatu stationed within the warren is relatively small compared to its size. The standard cell is of 2-4 young operators who are knowledgeable of new technology and 1-2 ancillae serving as guards.

Security
The location is registered as a protected space and public entrance is disallowed. Even so, kine have an understandable touristic interest in the Abbey and the surrounding area has a select cafe, restaurant, and tourism centre in place. Kine inspection is dangerous, although this attention also serves as a boon. The Nosferatu have long since maintained tabs on human security of the place, and even established a connection to their security systems. Unfortunately, perhaps due to Nosferatu influence or otherwise, the Abbey has a long list of rumours for being haunted. The amount of folklore surrounding the place makes it very sought after place by hunters, and thus it is not unusual for Nosferatu stationed here to never come out until they are sent elsewhere by their clan elders.
